Scripture: Read Colossians 2:1-15.
Paul knows that we face real challenges to our faith every day, but I love how he speaks into us to help us become successful in overcoming temptations and sneaky deceptions. He keeps speaking vision and encouragement over us. We were once “doing evil deeds” but now... (Col. 1:21). He comments on how much faith and love they have (Col. 1:4). Then he speaks like a general reviewing his troops before a battle; using military terms he says: “rejoicing to see your good [order] and the [firmness] of your faith in Christ” (Col. 2:5).
Can’t you feel him fathering you as you take these words into your own life?
I can picture you home schooling a child until he/she finishes the eighth grade; now you are preparing him/her for public school. Watch Paul, “I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.” We have all watched a child or a friend listen to the wrong voices and wind up paying a huge price. We want better for those we love.
Paul has hinted at what they are facing, but before he goes further, he reviews the fundamentals: how to have victory in every difficult, tempting, confusing situation. As he does this, hear God speaking directly into your life: “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus as the Lord, so walk in Him” (Col. 2:6).
Who lives in you? Christ, God’s Image, God’s Wisdom, God Mystery. How did you receive Him? By faith. The way you first came to Christ: being so needy for Him to be your righteousness is the same way to live every day. Dependent upon Him.
